The studio is both cosy and warm and light and airy. Tucked away from the busy world and yet close to amenities.

The Studio has its own gated entrance and parking.
Walk outside your door onto the coast path and there is the sea through the archway under ancient Rufus Castle ruins. Picturesque Church Ope Cove with running water, toilets and clean sea bathing below you.

Church Ope Studio is one light and airy room, built from local stone and with en-suite wet room. Suitable for a couple or for a single person and for one smaller dog.

  • The Studio is approx. 20' X 14' Facilities include:-
  • One supportive and very comfortable double bed
  • Linen, hand and bath towels
  • Comfy 2 seater leather sofa
  • En suite double sized shower in wet room with toilet and security seat for shower.
  • Wet and dry hanging space
  • An integrated kitchenette with full sized fridge, icebox, kettle, toaster, microwave oven, small oven and two burner hob
  • A wood burning stove together with central heating and additional oil filled radiator ensures the studio stays cosy all year round.
  • Smokeless fuel for the evenings and all electricity included. Extra smokeless fuel £5 
  • Free view 26" television and DVD player with a selection of movies
  • Radio with IPod dock
  • Bring your own Wi-Fi lap top for free connection to the internet
  • Small breakfast patio next to car port
  • Car port, with space for one car/van. Please back in and drive out due to tight turn in the lane. Keep gates closed when not in use.

Church Ope Cove

is a secluded cove nestled beneath the historic Rufus Castle and St Andrews Church. It is on the Jurassic coast World Heritage site. European accredited excellent clean water bathing beach. The beach is accessible by 150 odd steps or by a sloping path through the woods and then steps or from the coast path and then steps. The Cove is open to dogs all year round. Please keep your dog under control at all times and follow the Countryside code. (available on line and in summary in the Studio)

There are toilets and clean running water once you are on the beach.

Portlands world heritage coastline and coast path is outside your door.

Church Ope Cove is an excellent place to visit all year round to be in nature in this unique wild and worked land and seascape. There is clean sea bathing, snorkelling and diving, bird and butterfly watching, rock climbing, walking, dog walking and cycling along the cliff paths, goat, seal and dolphin watching, water sports including sailing, kite surfing and wind surfing at the Olympic Sailing Academy.

The ancient wonder of the Chesil beach, the Jurassic coast, stretches from Portland to West Bay at Bridport market town.

Weymouths shops and sandy beaches are 6 miles away and Dorchester county town is 10 miles away. Both are within easy reach by car or bus.

Come to visit the thatched museum just round the corner and Rufus Castle and St. Andrews church ruins just down the path.

Even with so much to do, the cliff path is quiet and you often have the beach to yourself. Come for holiday, retreat, rest and relaxation.

Low season: November to end of February £245 (excludes Xmas)
Mid season: March to June, September and October £325
High Season July, August Special offer: £375 plus basket of local goodies! 
Easter week Special offer: £375 plus basket of local goodies! 

Short breaks when available: 3 night weekend (Friday to Sunday) or 4 night mid week ( Monday to Thursday)

Dogs stay for free

Non refundable deposit of 25% - by bank transfer or cheque secures booking. Full payment due 30 days before stay.

Please do let us know if there is anything not up to standard when you arrive and please expect to pay for any damage to the Studio, décor, rugs, furniture and fittings etc. or extra cleaning. (and not including the odd cup or glass) A £50 damages deposit is taken at time of balance and refunded to you on inspection. (99% of the time)
 

Church Ope Studio has Parking

The drive is on a slight upward  slope. Please drive onto it and back out for easy parking. Please keep the gate closed when not in use as it opens onto the narrow lane. Drive round the corner of the white bungalow and stop. Walk to the gates to open them outflat against the walls. Drive onto the hard standing and close gates.

There is additional parking space on Wakeham or just after the bend on Wakeham, on the right, at the Portland Museum car park.
 

Find Church Ope Studio Accommodation

On the Isle of Portland off Weymouth in the UK - Follow the A354. Go over the causeway between Chesil beach on your right and Portland harbour with the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy on your left.

Keeping left, follow the hill up to the top of Portland with panoramic views over Chesil Bank to your right. At this roundabout take the first main exit and keeping left carry on through Easton Square with the Co-op shop to your left and Easton Square to your right.

Follow the left then right bend in the road and continue down Wakeham, a wide road descending towards the sea, until you come to the thatched Portland museum.
Church Ope Road is the turning on the left between the museum and the castle arch ahead of you on the bend of the road. Church Ope Road is a no throughway leading straight out onto the coast path.
Church Ope Studio is at the rear of the white semi detached cottage as the road bends to the left. see to map link below.

Access. Parking outside your door. Please drive onto the hard standing and back out again ready to drive off as the hard standing is on an incline and the lane is narrow.  Stop the car before reaching the Studio and open gates outward to lie flat against the walls.
One shallow step to door which is standard width. Level tiled floor in Studio and one step up to wet room.  Access to bed from both sides.
Path outside to the benches over looking the sea is on level ground and sloping down through Rufus Castle arch. Level grass and stone viewing point over sea with benches. 150 steps down to cove and several uneven steps up to coast path which is then level along the railway cuttings.

Nearest railway station Weymouth 6 miles away. On London Waterloo line. Nearest airports: Bournmouth by rail/car (1 hour) Southampton by rail/car ( 90 mins) Bristol  by rail/car (2.30 hrs) Exeter by car ( 2 hrs)

Dogs

One smaller house trained companion is welcome.   Any damage or extreme cleaning must of course be paid for. 
All the coves and foot paths and many of the pubs on Portland are dog friendly all year round. Please do not leave your dog unattended in the Studio at any time.
Dog sitting and walking service available by arrangement  (£10 hourly £30 for 4 hours. £50 day includes 2 walks appropriate to dogs needs)

Bring your own dog bedding and bowls - but if you forget no worries. We can supply them and a dog crate too if needed.
Please bring your own linen and throws for bed, rug and sofa should your dog be used to snuggling down with you.

Out and about with your dog
The Studio leads left straight out onto the coast path. The Studio drive is gated. Please keep the gate closed at all times when not in use for moving your car. 
Church Ope Cove beach is open to dogs all year round.
Weymouth beach restricts dogs between April and September.
 
'Dasher', a wire haired fox terrier, and 'Juno', border terrier, live with us. They are sociable and securely housed away from the Studio.
