Church Ope Cove

is a secluded cove nestled beneath the historic Rufus Castle and St Andrews Church. It is accessible by 150 odd steps or by a sloping path through the woods and then steps or from the coast path and then steps.

There are toilets and clean running water once you are on the beach.

Church ope cove is a clean swimming beach.
Snorkelling and fishing also.
See www.portlandbill.com for fishing details.
see www.rockfax.com for info on climbing the Cuttings.
see www.portlandbirdobservatory.co.uk for bird watching latest news.

Portland's world heritage coastline and coast path is outside your door.

Church Ope Cove is an excellent place to visit all year round with clean sea bathing, snorkelling and diving, bird and butterfly watching, rock climbing, walking, dog walking and cycling along the cliff paths, goat, seal and dolphin watching, water sports including sailing, kite surfing and wind surfing at the Olympic Sailing Academy.

The ancient wonder of the Chesil beach, the Jurassic coast, stretches from Portland to West Bay at Bridport market town.

Weymouths shops and sandy beaches are 6 miles away and Dorchester county town is 10 miles away. Both are within easy reach by car or bus.

Come to visit the thatched museum just round the corner and Rufus Castle and St. Andrews church ruins just down the path.

The Studio is situated, as legend would have it, on an ancient ceremonial site with St. Andrews on a line linking all the sacred isles of ancient Britain.

Even with so much to do, the path is always quiet, the beach, 150 steps below the Studio, often empty. Come for retreat, rest and relaxation.
